Government promises World Cup project for next year
The Brazilian Sports Minister, Orlando Silva Junior, said on Monday that the full project showing how the country is planning to organize the 2014 World Cup will be ready by March of 2007. According to the minister, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) will officially inform Fifa in December that Brazil is running for the right to host the competition. The document which the authorities say will be ready in March has then to be sent to Fifa by April. According to the Federal government, authorities will be responsible for spending to improve the infra-structure of the World Cup venues, while CBF will make an effort with the private sector to attract investors to build and renovate stadia. Fifa's president Sepp Blatter will meet Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia on Thursday. Lula will again show Fifa that the Brazilian government is fully behind the project to host the tournament.
