Controversial dismissal at Fluminense

Coach Oswaldo de Oliveira was fired on Monday, following Fluminense's 3-0 loss at Ponte Preta during the weekend. The loss, however, was not the reason behind his dismissal. According to different sources close to the club, the coach was fired for wanting to bench star serbian midfielder Dejan Petkovic, who has not been playing well as of late. Oliveira, usually calm, confirmed his decision to bench Petkovic in the upcoming games might have played a significant part in his firing, arguing that the club board was obeying orders from the team's main sponsors. The club, on the other hand, officially says the dismissal was caused by a series of poor results in the last matches in the Brazilian Serie A. It's the third coach fired by the team this year, after Ivo Wortmann and Paulo Campos had been let go in the first semester.
