Fluminense only draws against Gimnasia

Fluminense failed to defeat Argentina's Gimnasia La Plata this Thursday, having to settle for a 1-1 home draw at the Maracana Stadium, in the first leg of their round of 16 matchup in the Copa Sudamericana. And the locals were lucky not to leave the field with a loss. The first goal of the game was only scored in the 82nd minute, when defender Herner took advantage of a corner kick to head the ball into the net, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. Fluminense needed injury time to level the score, with Claudio Pitbull on a free kick. The second leg will be played in La Plate on October 11. Fluminense must win or draw with more than 2 goals scored to advance. A scoreless draw qualifies Gimnasia, while another 1-1 tie takes the match to a penalty shootout.
