Santos get Ze Roberto

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Ze Roberto agreed to a one year deal with Santos, after also being offered a deal to play for Sao Paulo. The player, who had knee surgery after the World Cup - in which he played for Brazil - and was having physiotheraphy sessions at Sao Paulo, opted for Santos because of a greater wage offer (a reported 500,000 reais, or roughly US$ 230,000, per month).

Meanwhile, Flamengo signed goalkeeper Bruno from Corinthians, and forward Jaja, from Spain's Getafe. The defending Brazilian Cup champions are dangerously close to the bottom of the table in the Brazilian League, and hope their new players will help the team stay in the First Division next year.

Finally, Corinthians' investment partner MSI agreed to loan Argentine stars Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano for a year to English Premier League side West Ham United. Both players had asked to leave the popular club after the team hired coach Emerson Leao. Even without these two players, Corinthians managed to beat Sao Caetano 1-0 away from home last night.

The team from Sao Caetano, winless in four, decided to fire coach PC Gusmao this Thursday. The manager lasted just over two weeks at the team, after being fired from Cruzeiro and arriving to replace Leao, who left for Corinthians. A new replacement has yet to be announced.

The press here are saying the Tevez/Mascherano deal is permanent.... though they are not going the figures on the fee.

If it is true, it is the transfer deal of the decade.
