Corinthians and Atletico get important wins

Corinthians and Atletico Paranaense scored important away wins in the first leg of their matchups in the Copa Sudamericana this Wednesday. Playing with its main team, Corinthians went to Rio and defeated Vasco 1-0 on a goal by Gustavo Nery in the second half. Atletico beat crosstown rivals Parana in Curitiba by a 3-1 score. Both teams play at home in the second leg and will advance with a simple draw. Santos also won yesterday, playing with a mostly reserve side to beat Cruzeiro 1-0 in Sao Paulo.
